Cardboard Castles - 2008

Cardboard is a valuable commodity in China resulting in little being thrown away. Whilst living in Beijing I purchased some used cardboard and constructed a castle. The castle was installed first in a forest and then on the street. Soon after installation it was dismantled and taken away to be resold by members of the public who would like the cardboard. The sculpture provided a contribution to the community whilst creating an amusing curiosity.

A second castle was constructed and the process repeated. This castle was accompanied by paintings of my favourite animals. The paintings were exhibited alongside the castle in a forest amongst the trees from which their materials are derived. It was then given away on the street to be sold in order to be recycled into something else.
